Re-Fashion

Lately I've gotten quite interested in reworking and refashioning things from my wardrobe. Here's a top which I got for £1 from a charity shop, but which would never do, as it didn't suit my shape, nor did it suit my profession.

pre-fashion

Sorry for the blurry photo.

I chopped off that whole bottom band, cut it in half lengthwise and trimmed the side seams, which were sloped. I took three of the resulting rectangles and sewed them to the bottom of the wrap, then hemmed everything with my most serger-like stitch. Added some ties in a nice location and voila!

Now a sensible cardigan. Hooray!

I've got plans to refashion a whole bunch of things in my wardrobe, but this was the least tricky (and least sentimental) of the lot, so it got the scissors first.

re-use, re-make

A couple of years ago, I got these lovely knee-length socks in the Sockapalooza sock exchange.

Wow! Sockapaloozied!

Problem was, however, they were knit without negative ease so perfect fit quickly became feet too big and socks falling down. Oh no! What to do?

A little ingenuity, a littel elastic at the top, some careful unpicking and re-knitting of ribbing, and I've got legwarmers instead. Yay!

green finch and linnet bird

pinned

This skirt I made last year had a stain, a rather unsightly grey paint stain and primary-school table level, a consequence of after school club teaching!

Rather than get rid of it, why not revamp it?

I am quite pleased! I used bird silhouettes off google images for reference, machine stitched and then embroidered for a final touch.
